Ålesund Airport, Vigra is the county’s largest airport. The terminal has been significantly upgraded recently, and an expanded terminal opened in March 2015. A large proportion of passengers arrive from abroad.
Ålesund is a great jumping-off point for experiencing Geiranger, Trollstigen and the Atlantic Ocean Road. Tourism is important for Sunnmøre and tourists are a key source of income for the tourism-oriented industries in Ålesund.
The art nouveau town of Ålesund is an attractive destination in and of itself, and the surrounding Sunnmøre Alps and the dramatic fjord and mountain landscapes attract cruises and adventure tourism.
Maritime businesses, furniture production and fishing are the faces of Ålesund’s business community. Møre and Romsdal is one of Norway’s largest export-oriented regions, and the largest fishing county in Norway.
People from Sunnmøre have always had a connection to nature: they live in harmony and step with nature and the seasons. Many of those visiting the region will experience the jagged mountains and wild nature. Ålesund and Sunnmøre stand out from the rest of the country, which can be seen everywhere from nature to design, art, cultural experiences, activities, products, food and drink. This is what our travellers will experience at Ålesund Airport, Vigra.
